Health Care

MICAH has worked to ensure access to quality, affordable health care by:

  • In February 2007, meeting with Congressman Markey, who represents MetroWest communities, to discuss the federal reauthorization and funding of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), which funds 82,000 children of low wage workers under health insurance in Massachusetts.  Congressman Markey pledged to work for its full funding.
  • Working for passage of the new Massachusetts state law to extend health care to the uninsured.  MICAH leaders met with Senator Susan Fargo, State Representative Tom Conroy and State Representative Pam Richardson to ask for their support for the bill called ‘an Act to Strengthen Health Care Reform'
  • Working with Marlborough Hospital on concerns about emergency room waiting times and treatment of immigrant patients.
  • Working for the siting of a new community health center in Framingham.
